For years now, the only cookbooks I have purchased are healthy cookbooks. But it has taken me a long time to find people who were willing to give these recipes a try with me. I guess all of us have had to grow into the willingness to eat healthier.
My favorite of the many cookbooks I bought during this time period is ”Looneyspoons” by Janet & Greta Podleski. It is my favorite for two reasons. One is that the recipes I tried turned out well; but also it has all these little tidbits of information about fat in our common, everyday foods that helped educate me so I could make better choices. For example, you would have to eat 200 pretzel twists to consume the 20 grams of fat found in 1 HOT DOG.
I don’t know about you but, before reading that, I would never eat just one hot dog – it was usually two. So I was consuming 40 grams of fat at just one of my three meals.
So hot dogs have joined the rank of “rarely have but really enjoy when I do” foods. Would somebody please pass the Sweet Potato Biscuits – and maybe some of that fat-free bean dip with the roasted red peppers in it! What cookbook did you say these came from?
